The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed new efforts aimed at transforming education across Ghana and the African continent through artificial intelligence and digital innovation.

In a Facebook post shared on Friday, January 23, 2026, the Minister disclosed that he recently held discussions with the Vice President of Google during the ongoing Generative AI Summit in the United Kingdom. The meeting, he said, focused on exploring practical ways technology can be leveraged to improve the quality and accessibility of education.
According to Mr. Iddrisu, the engagement was productive and centered on identifying strategies that would allow Ghana and other African countries to benefit more from emerging AI tools.
He further announced that Google is currently collaborating with the University of Ghana and the GDI Hub on projects designed to strengthen speech recognition systems and artificial intelligence tools tailored to Ghanaian languages. The initiative covers local languages such as Twi, Ewe, and Dagbani, with particular attention given to understanding non-standard speech patterns.
“The use of artificial intelligence in indigenous languages will make educational materials more accessible and help ensure that no learner is left behind,” the Minister stated.
