The Ghana Police Service has issued a strong warning to final-year students across the country as they prepare to complete the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Friday, June 19.
In a statement released on its official Facebook page, the Police urged candidates to celebrate responsibly after their examinations and avoid acts that could jeopardize their futures.
According to the Service, incidents such as violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and other unlawful activities carry serious legal consequences and can negatively affect the academic and professional prospects of students.
The Police emphasized that anyone found engaging in criminal acts will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The warning comes in the wake of recent incidents of student unrest in the Upper East Region that led to the arrest of six students.
At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested for allegedly setting fire to a teacher's apartment. In a separate incident at Bawku Senior High School, four students were arrested in connection with rioting, assaulting school staff, and destroying both school and private property.
The Police noted that these incidents serve as a reminder of the dangers associated with irresponsible celebrations and misconduct among students nearing the completion of their secondary education.
As schools prepare to release final-year students after the examination period, the Service is calling on parents, guardians, teachers, and school authorities to work together in promoting discipline, respect, and peaceful conduct.
The Ghana Police Service encouraged students to celebrate their achievements in a safe and lawful manner, stressing that their actions during this period could have lasting effects on their future opportunities.
Authorities have assured the public that security personnel will remain vigilant across the country to maintain law and order during and after the WASSCE completion period.
