The man who allegedly destroyed the bust of the “Big Six” has been arrested and further investigation is ongoing according the Ghana Police Service.

Ghanaians woke up in the morning of August 31 to the very interesting news of a man who had the gut to destroy such a national monument close to the heart of Ghana’s national security zone-Kotoka International Airport.

The incident is reported to have happened around 3:am August 31. According to some eyewitnesses, they saw the man destroying the statue and reported him to the police.

Videos and pictures circulating on social media showed complete destruction of the monument with broken parts scattered all around its confinement.

The level of destruction shows that the man had enough time on his side do what he did, possibly, it took him not less than 3 hours.

The shocking questions many are asking are that what might have triggered the suspect to think of carrying out such act and how was he not stopped early in the act by state authority considering the fact that the location is a security zone?

Some citizens are of the view that he acted in such daring manner to register his frustration and anger for the excruciating economic difficulties the nation’s leaders are currently taking citizens through.

It is reported the suspect also destroyed other signposts at the Airport Roundabout and the police identified him as one Newwel Gavu.

“The Ghana Police Service today, 31st August 2024, arrested suspect Newwel Gavu for causing damage to a monument and some signposts at the Airport roundabout in Accra. The suspect is currently in custody and will be taken through the due process of the law,” the police stated on its social media handle on X.
