A 38-year-old man, Emmanuel Cudjoe, has died under controversial circumstances while in police custody at the Agyeikrom Police Station in the Central Region, sparking outrage and demands for justice from his family.
Cudjoe was arrested on May 10, 2026, over allegations of defiling his 11-year-old stepdaughter. According to relatives, he informed his brother around 4:00 a.m. that he had been arrested following a complaint by his girlfriend.
Later that day, his mother reportedly visited the station but was denied access to him. Hours afterward, the family was shocked to learn that he had allegedly died by suicide in the cell.
Police say he was found hanging around 11:00 a.m., using a strip torn from a blanket. They claim there were no visible signs of violence on his body. His remains have been sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for autopsy, and investigations are ongoing.
However, the family is questioning the circumstances surrounding his death and is calling for a full and transparent investigation to uncover the truth.
