Police in the Ashanti Region have launched a manhunt for six armed robbers who attacked a team bus carrying players of Berekum Chelsea, killing one player.
The Ghana Police Service says the suspects will be arrested as soon as possible.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road. The team was returning to Berekum after a trip when their bus was ambushed.
Police say the six robbers, some armed with pump-action guns, attacked the bus. As the driver tried to escape, he lost control and the vehicle ran into a bush.
During the attack, a player, Dominic Frimpong, was shot. He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but later died.
Another passenger, George Owusu Afriyie, was also robbed of GH¢4,500.
Police recovered two empty cartridges from the scene to help with investigations.
The attack has raised fresh concerns about safety on highways, especially at night.
Police say more officers have been deployed, and investigations are ongoing, but no arrests have been made yet.
