Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead by police after a robbery at a Mobile Money (MoMo) shop in Tema Community 5 on Monday morning, April 13, 2026.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the incident happened around 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza. The robbers arrived on a motorbike, pretending to carry out a normal cash-out transaction.
One of them pulled a gun and demanded money from the female vendor. When she resisted, a struggle broke out, and she was shot in the leg before the suspects grabbed the cash and fled.
A police patrol team later spotted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital. When ordered to stop, they refused and led police on a chase toward the Smart Hotel area.
During the chase, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the police. Officers returned fire, hitting both men and causing them to fall off their motorbike.
They were taken to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.
Police recovered items believed to be linked to the robbery, including:
- GH¢11,390 in cash
- A pistol with four rounds of ammunition
- Three Android phones and several SIM cards
- A talisman
- The victim’s Ghana Card
The injured MoMo vendor is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment.
The police say they remain committed to keeping the area safe and have urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
