Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, a Ghanaian politician and former parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Klottey Korle Constituency, has been taken into custody in the United States after being linked to an alleged stabbing incident involving his wife.

The alleged assault took place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at a residence on Mayfair Drive in Lower Paxton Township, Pennsylvania, where local police responded to a domestic disturbance call. They found a woman with multiple stab wounds and she was rushed to a hospital, with authorities reporting she is currently in stable condition.

Following the incident, Nortey was arrested without resistance and charged with several serious offenses under U.S. law, including attempted homicide, possession of an instrument of crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

He was brought before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied him bail given the seriousness of the allegations. Nortey is now being held at Dauphin County Prison in Pennsylvania while his legal team prepares for a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 26, 2026. At that hearing, a judge will decide if the case should move forward to trial.

Police have described the event as a domestic incident confined to the household, stating there was no risk to the general public.

This development has attracted attention in both the United States and Ghana due to Nortey’s profile as an active political figure and former candidate for parliamentary office.
