Renowned private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has announced plans to formally petition for the removal of the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, citing allegations of incompetence and corruption.
His statement comes a couple of days earlier and in the wake of reports that President John Mahama has submitted 10 separate petitions to the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie. These include three petitions targeting the Special Prosecutor and seven others seeking the removal of Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Asare and Mr. Samuel Tettey
The petitions have reportedly been forwarded to the Chief Justice for a prima facie assessment, in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the procedure for the removal of public officials who hold conditions of service equivalent to Justices of the Superior Courts.
Kpebu's forthcoming petition adds to growing pressure on the Office of the Special Prosecutor, raising broader questions about the accountability and performance of constitutional officeholders in Ghana.
Netizens are of the view that he, Martin Kpebu ought to take over the office after removal of Kissi Agyebeng.
