I have observed many children forced to grapple with sudden serious health conditions of their parents or dependants. Many of them were not prepared, especially financially to take care of emergency health needs and their struggle/frustration is very palpable.

Some relatives admit their parents are known to have manageable conditions like hypertension and diabetes but they do not adhere to treatment. The end result of such noncompliance then becomes huge burden on the children.
That is why I always encourage people to make it a duty to ensure their loved ones maintain health, especially those with underlying chronic conditions.
Sometimes, I jokily tell my audience that, if your loved one who depends on you refuses to comply with known health condition management, call police to arrest him or her because you are likely to suffer the consequences of their intransigence when they get on admission.
