The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) has officially suspended its strike action after a successful meeting with key stakeholders, including Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
This came at the back of strike action declared by doctors of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following the suspension of the CEO of the facility- Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo by the Health Minister. The CEO was accused of suspending emergency services at the facility without proper consultation with stakeholders.
The association in a statement released on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 declared that the industrial action was called off effective 6:00 p.m. after what it described as productive engagements aimed at resolving the concerns that led to the strike.
The intervention of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, together with all other relevant stakeholders played crucial role in reaching a conclusion on the call off.
The association recognized that the issues that sparked the industrial action have not yet been fully resolved and yet members considered the negative impact of a protracted strike on patient care and public health and then deciding to end the action.
KADA stressed that its decision to return to work while discussions continue toward a lasting solution was necessitated by the welfare of patients and the broader public interest.
The doctors also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who have been involved in efforts to resolve the dispute.
In addition, the association acknowledged the support received from the National Executive Council and members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), as well as several health sector unions and professional bodies. These include the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Health Services Workers’ Union, Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana, Orthopaedic Association of Ghana, Komfo Anokye Certified Registered Anaesthetist Association, Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, and the Komfo Anokye Pharmacists Association.
KADA indicated that engagements with stakeholders will continue as efforts are intensified to address the outstanding concerns behind the industrial action.
