A group of enthusiastic guys and ladies decided to descend deep down into suffocating, stench laden gutters to breathe life into the drain network system in Accra particularly, by removing piles of filth.
They started small, but due to the beautiful outcome of their dirty work, many people, including foreigners have fallen in love with the activities of the Buzstopboys volunteers.
The group is now made up of people of all walks of life -Bankers, Police, doctors, soldiers, celebrities, etc. who blend perfectly unnoticed, with everyday ordinary Ghanaians from ghettoes as volunteers.
There are many “Buzstopboys” in our institutions, communities across the country. However, they couldn't thrive and they would never be noticed like the street/sanitation Buzstopboys.
The Buzstopboys on the street and in the gutters do not go in there with people armed with only pen and paper, giving instructions and falsifying facts and figures to cut a deal.
Office workers, so to speak, who join the group in the smelling, choked gutters do not go with their high educational certificates and titles. They simply appear with their hands and heart to help out.
The Buzstopboys group is thriving because there are no institutional bottleneck and needless bureaucratic hurdles to deal with in order to get access to the filthy streets and chocked gutters.
The “Buzstopboys” in institutions and communities
Indeed, there are many Buzstopboys group in other sectors of our society but they are simply shut off and driven away. Why? simply because there are people who directly and massively benefit from the rotten stench of corruption, mismanagement in our institutions and governance system.
If they allow the office Buzstopboys to expose and clear the filth of wrong doings in our institutions, how can they get the opportunity to amass illegal wealth for themselves?
The enemies of Buzstopboys group in our institutions and governance system have powerful tools at their disposal to drive out volunteers who come in to clean up the mess. They use bureaucracy, their big titles and even the law to easily do that without a drop of sweat.
This is one of the main sources of underdevelopment in this country Ghana.
There are so-called big men who have been handed multimillion dollar contracts to do the job the "boys" do, but they don't. At best, they engage in shoddy work.
Nobody holds them accountable. If they do a good job today, how can they go to renew contract with huge sums of money for the same job the next day?
The beautiful sanitation results the “Buzstopboys” produce are disgrace on the conscience of our politicians and so-called elites who sit in the media to speak big, big grammar.
The activities of the group is a threat to the corrupt enterprise entrenched in the system and that is why I will humbly urge them to be very careful and vigilant out there.
