bernajismedia.com is the virtual space where writers discuss pertinent issues that impact the lives of the ordinary citizens. The goal of the founder is to mainly focus on the discussion of healthcare topics and health related issues in the country (Ghana) as he is a professional healthcare provider.

On a second thought, it is for a fact that the quality of healthcare service/delivery and the quality of life in general, are largely influenced by the socio-economic, cultural or political environment existing in a country.

We may not be experts in the aforementioned areas of discourse but we do recognize how leadership in all aspects, including at the national stage affect the quality of healthcare system available to citizens.

Harsh socio-economic environment like high unemployment rate, widespread poverty easily create avoidable unequal accessibility and availability of quality healthcare.

Also, outmoded, retrogressive cultural practices and norms such as, female genital mutilation, child betrothal, and gender inequality contribute to poor access to healthcare in communities anywhere.

In many rural communities in Ghana, a woman must be granted permission by the husband before going anywhere including a visit to healthcare facility when she or the child is ill. What happens if the man is not immediately available, or refuses to grant such an absurd permission in an emergency situation?

In light of this, it is not out of place for us to point out some of these negative determinants of health in our deliberations. When this is done passionately and constructively, we, as a people including our leaders, together can narrow the conversation down to how we can effectively mechanize and improve upon existing structures and systems that make for better overall physical, mental and social health of ordinary citizens and not a preserve for few.

On this note, the site- bernajismedia.com has these five categories: Healthcare, Social-economic issues, politics, lifestyle and general news.

This definition of healthcare by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.), “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” is in line with our mission to include other issues in our discussions and not only traditional health topics.

The W. H. O. definition clearly shows that holistic healthcare transcends beyond dealing with diseases and physiology.

WHAT WE ARE NOT

It should be noted that any view expressed on issues other than healthcare on this site is not intended to lend support to or undermine any group of interest. We will throw our support behind everyone or activities that seek to improve the living standard of the ordinary citizen, so to speak, including their health.

FUNDING

Currently, there is no external support/funding for our activities like organizing of health programs (health talk and basic screening) in communities and institutions (offices and places of worship).

We therefore welcome any form assistance especially financial from individuals, groups or organizations who are touched by our effort so that we can continue to do more to help many, especially the less-privileged in our communities.
