In a sad twist of events, an eight-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 12-year-old brother at Twifo-Ahyire in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District in the Central Region. The boy reportedly went for the gun, belonging to his father and unaware that the gun was loaded, he playfully pointed it at his brother and pulled the trigger, killing his brother instantly.
The father of the boys, Samuel Hegbige, also known as ‘Sakora’ who is a farmer and a hunter, allegedly left the firearm in his room upon his return from a hunting expedition.
He has been arrested to help the police in investigations.
Investigations
The Twifo Praso District Police Commander, Superintendent Charles Addai Boateng, confirming the incident, said the police were informed about the incident moments after it had happened, and a team was dispatched to the scene to follow up.
He said the eight-year-old boy was questioned as part of the investigation while the father was sent to the police station for further questioning.
The body of the deceased has, meanwhile, been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation, while investigations continue.
