NDC MPs accuse NPP of abusing parliamentary processes; to resist recall in court

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) law makers refused returning back to the floor of parliament even after the speaker took his seat to conduct business of the house on Tuesday, October 21.

This forced him (Alban Bagbin) to adjourn the House indefinitely citing inadequate numbers to take decision on the floor. Barely 48 hours after this, NPP MPs, led by Afenyo-Markin triggered motion for parliament recall by the speaker.

All of these are happening as Ghana is confronted with unprecedented thick cloud of tension that’s still hanging over the nation following the controversial rulings by the speaker of parliament and the supreme court regarding the sacking of four members of parliament.

Relying on the constitution and Parliament's standing orders, the NPP Caucus stated that Speaker Bagbin is bound to recall Parliament in seven days after receiving the letter.

Speaking on several media platforms in the country yesterday, South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, argues the governing party is abusing the provision that allows the speaker to recall even against his wish.

Mr. Rockson signaled preparedness of NDC caucus to take legal action barring the speaker from honouring the motion.
