THE ROLE OF HEALTH INSTITUTIONS IN HEALTHCARE DELIVERY

The health institution comprises of all the different levels of health facilities (Teaching hospitals, regional hospitals, municipal hospitals, district hospitals, policlinics, clinics, Community-based Health Planning and Services (C.H.P.S.) Compound etc.).

The main duty is to manage the allocation of resources and implement policies at the care level.  The managers of these health facilities may have the opportunity to mobilize and utilize internally generated funds but in a limited capacity.

The services in our health facilities are heavily subsidized through the national health insurance scheme and so adequate financial support from the state through ministry of health is needed for smooth running of health facilities.

For instance, the procurement of expensive hospital equipment, putting up additional buildings and ICT infrastructure, recruitment of new staff etc. require the support of the government.
