The speaker of Ghana's Parliament has yet again adjourned sitting within ten minutes of his arrival in the chamber. NDC mps came in their numbers while not even one from the side of NPP.
This dramatic decision followed the refusal of NPP legislatures' failure to show up in parliament after they forced the speaker for a recall when they first refused to show up prior to this current sitting, necessitating adjournment.
The speaker of parliament cited lack of numbers needed to conduct any business as the NDC mps do not have the number alone.
The action of NPP may be interpreted in many ways; some include; abuse of parliamentary process to force the speaker to call parliament today and disregard of parliament. NDC mps accuse NPP of abuse of parliament processes
This drama of parliament started at the back of vacant seat declaration of some four members of parliament by the speaker. The decision of the Speaker Alban Gbagbin was immediately challenged in the Supreme Court and they rule against it. These are indeed interesting days as the nation gears up for general election on December 7, 2024.
