The management of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has confirmed that smoke was detected coming from a passenger’s luggage at the baggage wrap area at the Departure Hall, Terminal 3, KIA, on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at about 3.27 p.m.

The GACL stated that the concerned luggage was quickly segregated once the Aviation Security Department’s Operations Room was notified.

GACL’s Emergency Operations protocols were promptly followed, resulting in the swift evacuation of all passengers present in the terminal.

A statement from GACL clearly warned passengers to desist from travelling with batteries and other prohibited items or substances which are against the International Civil Aviation Regulations. Failure to adhere to these warnings will lead to confiscation of luggage and facing the authorities for further actions.

“Management wishes to thank passengers who were in the departure hall at the time of the incident for their cooperation during the evacuation process. The safety of our passengers is paramount. All passenger facilitation and terminal operations have resumed smoothly.” It added.
